Robert Burns Statue

Robert Burns, widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland is a figure celebrated across the world and the Robert Burns Statue in Sydney, Australia is one of many statues that pay tribute to his work.

Burns was born in Ayrshire, Scotland on January 25, 1759, and many of his poetry and folk songs remain well known worldwide for example Auld Lang Syne, which is often sung on December 31st.  

Constructed from bronze and sitting on a granite pedestal, the statue was erected by the Burns Memorial Committee and was unveiled in January 1905. It’s said that several thousand onlookers came to witness the official unveiling. 

The statue sits within The Domain, a large heritage-listed open space in Sydney that holds great historic and cultural significance to the development of the city.
